There is currently no set time limit for how long you can use Wegovy to manage your weight. Clinical guidelines recognise that for many, weight management is a long-term commitment.
Use this guide to understand:
How your progress is reviewed by MedExpress.
The clinical criteria for continuing treatment.
Guidance from health authorities regarding long-term use.
Progress reviews and the "5% Rule"
To ensure Wegovy is the right treatment for you, your MedExpress prescriber will review your progress after 6 months.
The Goal: If you have lost at least 5% of your starting body weight after 6 months, you are generally considered a "responder" to the medication and can continue your treatment.
If progress is slower: If you have not reached this 5% milestone, we may recommend discontinuing Wegovy to explore alternative options that might work more effectively for your body.
Long-term use and clinical guidance
According to the latest guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), you can continue using Wegovy for as long as it remains effective for you and you are not experiencing any serious side effects.
Your prescriber will conduct regular check-ins to:
Monitor safety: Ensure you are tolerating the medication well.
Assess effectiveness: Confirm the treatment is still helping you maintain or lose weight.
Review health markers: Track improvements in weight-related health conditions.
