What you receive with Wegovy®

With MedExpress, you will receive:

  • 1 Wegovy® pen each month (contains 4 doses)

  • 4 disposable needles

You must use a new disposable needle for every Wegovy® injection.

Step 1: Prepare the Wegovy® pen

Before injecting Wegovy®, prepare your pen and supplies carefully.

Remove your Wegovy® pen from the refrigerator.

Place all required items on a clean surface:

  • Wegovy® pen

  • Disposable needle

  • Sharps bin

Check the expiry date on the Wegovy® pen and look for any signs of damage. Do not use Wegovy® if it has expired or appears damaged.

Check the name and dose on the Wegovy® pen match your prescription.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Remove the pen cap and inspect the liquid inside the Wegovy® pen.

The liquid should be clear and colourless.

Do not use the Wegovy® pen if the liquid is cloudy, coloured, or contains particles.

Attach a new needle

Select a new disposable needle for your Wegovy® injection.

  • Never reuse a needle

  • Do not use a bent or damaged needle

Check the paper tab and outer needle cap for damage. If damaged, dispose of the needle in a sharps bin.

To attach the needle:

  1. Tear off the paper tab

  2. Push the needle straight onto the Wegovy® pen

  3. Twist until secure

  4. Remove the outer needle cap and keep it

  5. Remove the inner needle cap and dispose of it

Step 2: Check the flow of the Wegovy® pen

You only need to check the flow before your first injection with a new Wegovy® pen.

This ensures the Wegovy® pen is working correctly.

To check flow:

  1. Turn the dose selector until the flow check symbol lines up with the dose pointer

  2. Hold the Wegovy® pen with the needle pointing upwards

  3. Press the dose button until the dose counter returns to “0”

  4. Look for a small drop of medication at the needle tip

If no droplet appears:

  • Repeat the flow check up to two more times

  • If still no droplet, replace the needle and try once more

  • If the Wegovy® pen still does not show a droplet, contact MedExpress for support

Step 3: Choose an injection site for Wegovy®

You can inject Wegovy® into:

  • The upper arms

  • The stomach (abdomen)

  • The front of the thighs

The injection site choice is up to you.

Important: Rotate your Wegovy® injection site each week to help reduce skin irritation.

Step 4: Administer your Wegovy® injection

To inject your Wegovy® dose:

  1. Turn the dose selector until it stops and your prescribed dose lines up with the dose pointer

  2. Position the Wegovy® pen at a 90-degree angle to your skin

  3. Insert the needle into your skin

  4. Press and hold the dose button while counting slowly to 6

  5. Ensure the 0 (zero) icon is visible in the dose window

  6. Remove the needle from your skin

If bleeding occurs, gently press the area with a clean tissue. Do not rub.

After your Wegovy® injection

After completing your Wegovy® injection:

  1. Guide the needle tip into the outer needle cap on a flat surface

  2. Carefully push the outer needle cap fully on

  3. Unscrew the used needle

  4. Dispose of the needle in your sharps bin

  5. Replace the Wegovy® pen cap

Store your Wegovy® pen safely in the refrigerator.

Once you have used all 4 doses, you can dispose of the empty Wegovy® pen in your household bin.

Key takeaway

Using your Wegovy® pen correctly helps ensure your full weekly dose is delivered safely. Always use a new needle, follow the injection steps carefully, and dispose of needles in a sharps bin after each Wegovy® injection.
