Injecting Mounjaro is easier than you might think.
With Mounjaro, you’ll be able to administer your dose once a week, on the same day, at home. Here’s everything you need to know to feel confident and get the most out of your treatment:
Step 1: Choose your injection site
You can inject Mounjaro into:
- Your stomach (at least 5cm away from your belly button).
- The front of your thigh.
- The back of your upper arm (you’ll need help with this one).
Make sure to rotate your injection site each week to avoid skin irritation.
Step 2: Prepare and prime the pen
Take your medication out of the fridge and place it on a clean surface with your alcohol swab, pen, disposable needle, and sharps bin nearby.
Use soap and water to clean your hands thoroughly.
Remove the pen cap and inspect the medication—make sure it's clear to slightly yellow and there’s no damage to the pen. Don’t use it if it looks cloudy, discoloured or damaged.
Wipe the red inner seal of the pen with an alcohol swab. Check the needle packaging for damage. If it's fine, peel off the paper tab, push the needle onto the pen, and twist to secure. Keep the outer needle cap for safe disposal later.
To prime the pen, turn the dose knob until you hear 2 clicks and see the extended line in the window. Hold the pen upright, tap it gently to move any air bubbles to the top, and press the dose knob fully in. Hold for 5 seconds. A droplet should appear at the tip.
- If no droplet appears, repeat up to 2 more times.
- Still not working? Swap to a new needle and try once more.
- If there's still no droplet, contact MedExpress for support.
Step 3: Inject
Turn the dose knob until it stops and you see "1" in the dose window.
Hold the pen at a 90-degree angle to your skin at the injection site.
Inject the medication by pressing and holding the button all the way in until “0” shows. Keep holding for 5 more seconds to make sure the full dose is delivered.
Finally, take the needle out of your skin.
If you see a bit of blood, gently press the spot with a clean tissue—don’t rub it.
