When starting Mounjaro®, everyone begins on the same dose: 2.5mg once a week for the first four weeks.
This low starting dose helps your body adjust and reduces the chance of side effects like nausea or diarrhoea.
Your dose is then gradually increased every four weeks - a process called titration. It’s a bit like starting at a lighter weight in the gym and building up slowly. Here’s a typical Mounjaro schedule:
- Weeks 1-4: 2.5 mg
- Weeks 5-8: 5 mg
- Weeks 9-12: 7.5 mg
- Weeks 13-16: 10 mg
- Weeks 17-20: 12.5 mg
- Weeks 21: 15 mg (maximum dose)
However, this schedule is not a one-size-fits-all. The right dose for you is the one where you’re seeing steady progress, such as losing around 1-2 pounds per week, and feeling like you can stick with it.
You may not need to reach the highest dose. Some people respond well to lower doses, such as 5 mg or 10 mg, and choose to stay there. That’s called your maintenance dose - the dose that’s most effective for you, with minimal side effects.
If you’re not seeing the results you expected, or if the side effects feel too strong, you can stay at a lower dose for longer than 4 weeks.
Our clinical team will check in regularly to review your progress and help guide any dose adjustments. For us to continue prescribing Mounjaro to you, you’ll need to have lost at least 5% of your initial body weight after 6 months.
