Injecting Wegovy® is easier than you might think.
With the Wegovy® pen, you’ll be able to administer your dose once a week, on the same day, at home. Here’s everything you need to know to feel confident and get the most out of your treatment:
Step 1: Choose your injection site
You can inject Wegovy® in a few areas on your body, but it’s important to rotate your injection site each week to avoid skin irritation.
- Abdomen: Inject around your stomach area, staying at least 5 cm away from your belly button.
- Thighs: You can also inject into the front of your thighs.
- Upper arm: If someone else is administering your injection, it’s possible to inject into the upper arm.
Step 2: Prepare the pen
Take your pen out of the fridge and place it on a clean surface with a new needle and your sharps bin nearby.
Make sure the pen shows the correct dose, is not expired or damaged, and the liquid inside is clear and colourless.
Wash your hands with soap and water, then dry thoroughly.
To attach a new needle to the pen, tear off the paper tab, push the needle straight on, and twist to secure. Remove both caps of the needle (keep the outer cap to throw the needle away later).
Check the flow of your pen by turning the dose selector to the flow check symbol. Hold the pen upright and press the dose button until the dose counter returns to -0- and a small drop of medication appears at the tip of the needle. This drop indicates that the pen is ready for use.
Step 3: Inject
Turn the dose selector until the dose counter stops, and your prescribed dose lines up with the dose pointer.
Hold the pen at a 90° angle to your skin. Press and hold the dose button until it shows “0” while you count to 6, then keep holding for another 6 seconds to ensure full delivery of your treatment.
Remove the needle from your skin. Press gently with a tissue if there’s a little bleeding—don’t rub.
Finally, carefully remove the needle using the outer cap and put it in your sharps bin.
