If you are currently using an injectable weight loss treatment and have not yet reached a weight loss plateau, we recommend staying on the same type of treatment. Continuing with your current medication allows your body to benefit from the treatment and helps maintain a consistent weight loss journey.
However, if you wish to switch to a different injectable weight loss treatment, it is important to start from the lowest dose of the new medication, regardless of your previous treatment or dose. For example, if you were previously prescribed Wegovy® (at any dose) and would like to switch to Mounjaro®, you should always begin with the lowest available dose of Mounjaro®, which is 2.5mg.
When switching between different types of injectable weight loss treatments, no "wash out" period is necessary.
A "wash out" period refers to a time during which you would stop all medications to allow your body to clear out the previous treatment before starting a new one.
For example, if you were previously taking Wegovy® 1.7mg and decide to switch to Mounjaro®, you would not need to take a break between treatments. Instead, you can take your last dose of Wegovy® 1.7mg as scheduled, and then start Mounjaro® 2.5mg the following week, as per the recommended dosing schedule for Mounjaro®.
