When starting Wegovy, it is important to follow a gradual dosing plan, known as titration. This helps your body adjust to the medication and reduces the likelihood of side effects like nausea or diarrhoea.

Use this guide to:

  • Understand the standard weekly titration schedule.

  • Learn about the "maintenance dose" and what it means for you.

  • Identify the clinical requirements for continuing your treatment.

Your Wegovy titration schedule

Most patients follow a structured increase in dose every four weeks. Think of it as starting with a lighter weight at the gym and building up slowly as your strength increases.

  • Weeks 1-4: 0.25mg once weekly (Starting dose)

  • Weeks 5-8: 0.5mg once weekly

  • Weeks 9-12: 1.0mg once weekly

  • Weeks 13-16: 1.7mg once weekly

  • Weeks 17 onwards: 2.4mg once weekly (Standard maintenance dose)

  • Highest dose: 7.2mg (Subject to clinical review)

Finding the right dose for you

The titration schedule is not "one-size-fits-all." The most effective dose for you is the one where you see steady progress—such as losing around 1-2 pounds per week—while side effects remain manageable. Weight-loss progress can sometimes plateau even while using Wegovy effectively. This is a normal phase as the medication builds up in your system; patience is essential during this time to assess its longer-term impact.

  • Maintenance Dose: You may not need to reach the highest dose. If you respond well to a lower dose and it feels sustainable, you can choose to stay there.

  • Flexibility: If side effects feel too strong or you aren't yet ready to move up, you can stay at a lower dose for longer than four weeks.

  • Clinical Guidance: Our team will check in regularly to review your progress and help guide any necessary dose adjustments.

Clinical requirements for continued treatment

To ensure Wegovy is working effectively for you, MedExpress follows specific clinical guidelines. For us to continue prescribing this medication, you will need to have lost at least 5% of your initial body weight after 6 months of treatment. Additionally, recognizing appetite suppression as a sign of the medication’s effectiveness can provide reassurance during weight management. Moreover, it’s essential to remain patient and give the medication time—at least six months—to evaluate its true impact on your weight management journey.
