No, you cannot skip to a higher dose of Wegovy. It is critical to follow the prescribed dosing schedule (known as titration) to ensure your treatment is both safe and effective.

Use this guide to understand:

  • Why a gradual increase in your Wegovy dose is necessary.

  • The standard dosing schedule for new patients.

  • What to do if you feel your current dose needs adjusting.

The importance of titration

Everyone starts Wegovy on the lowest dose (0.25mg once a week) to allow your body time to adjust to the medication. Jumping ahead to a higher dose too soon significantly increases the risk of severe side effects, including:

  • Intense nausea and vomiting.

  • Severe stomach discomfort or cramping.

  • Dehydration due to gastrointestinal upset.

This steady, step-by-step approach helps your body respond safely and provides the best foundation for long-term weight loss success.

Standard Wegovy dosing schedule

Your dose will typically be increased gradually every four weeks, provided you are tolerating the medication well:

  • Weeks 1-4: 0.25mg once weekly.

  • Weeks 5-8: 0.5mg once weekly.

  • Weeks 9-12: 1.0mg once weekly.

  • Weeks 13-16: 1.7mg once weekly.

  • Weeks 17 onwards: 2.4mg once weekly (standard maintenance dose).

  • Highest dose: 7.2mg (subject to clinical review).

Managing your progress

If you find your current dose of Wegovy difficult to tolerate, or if you feel you are ready to move up to the next strength, your progress will be reviewed during your next consultation. We are here to ensure your titration schedule matches your body's needs.
