How to Manage Constipation
Many people find they can manage constipation effectively by making small changes to their daily routine. To relieve constipation while taking Mounjaro® or Wegovy®, we recommend the following:
Increase fluid intake: Drink plenty of fluids, such as water and herbal teas, to stay hydrated.
Eat high-fibre foods: Incorporate foods like prunes, figs, and oats into your diet to help move waste through your system.
Exercise regularly: Take regular walks or engage in light physical activity, as exercise can stimulate natural bowel movements.
When to Contact Your GP or Call 111
While constipation is usually manageable at home, you should seek external medical advice if your symptoms persist or worsen. Contact your GP if:
Your constipation does not improve after following the dietary and lifestyle advice listed above.
You notice blood in your stool.
You experience severe abdominal pain or bloating along with the inability to pass stool.
(Always inform the healthcare provider that you are currently taking weight loss medication.)
