How to manage headaches
Most headaches associated with Wegovy are mild and temporary. To help manage this symptom, MedExpress recommends the following:
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or herbal teas, throughout the day. Dehydration is a frequent cause of headaches when starting Wegovy.
Pain relief: Use simple over-the-counter pain relief, such as paracetamol, as directed on the packaging.
Temperature therapy: Apply a hot or cold compress to your forehead or the back of your neck to soothe discomfort.
Prioritise sleep: Ensure you are getting enough rest, aiming for 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night to help your body adjust to Wegovy.
When to contact your GP or call 111
While headaches are a known side effect, you should seek external medical advice if your symptoms do not follow a typical pattern. Contact your GP or call 111 if:
Your headache lasts for more than a few days without improvement.
Your headache gets progressively worse over time.
You notice any changes in your vision, such as blurring or light sensitivity.
You experience other symptoms alongside the headache, such as vomiting or dizziness.
Note: Always inform your healthcare provider that you have been taking Wegovy for weight management.
