Understanding Wegovy side effects

When first starting Wegovy

In most cases, side effects improve or resolve over time as the body adjusts.
Very common side effects (more than 1 in 10 people)
These side effects are common, usually temporary, and often improve with time:
Feeling sick (nausea)
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Stomach pain
Headache
Fatigue
Common side effects (up to 1 in 10 people)
These side effects may occur in some people taking Wegovy:
Dizziness
Indigestion
Heartburn
Bloating
Burping
Flatulence (gas)
Injection site reactions (redness or swelling)
Gallstones
Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or eczema
Low blood pressure
Hair loss
Changes in sense of touch
Changes in sense of taste
Gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining)
Eye problems in people with type 2 diabetes
In people with type 2 diabetes, rapid improvements in blood sugar control can temporarily worsen diabetic eye disease (retinopathy).
If you have diabetic eye disease and notice any changes in vision or eye symptoms while taking Wegovy, contact your GP or call 111 for advice.
Uncommon side effects (less than 1 in 100 people)
These side effects occur less frequently but still require attention:
Kidney stones
Increased heart rate
Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
Symptoms of hypoglycaemia
Low blood sugar can occur even in people without type 2 diabetes. Watch for:
Hunger
Dizziness
Tiredness or weakness
Confusion
Anxiety or irritability
Sweating
Shaking
Tingling lips
Heart palpitations
Blurred vision

Serious side effects
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
Pancreatitis is a serious but rare condition. Symptoms may include:
Severe stomach pain that may spread to your back
Pain that does not go away
Severe vomiting that does not settle
Feeling very unwell
Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if you experience these symptoms.
Rare side effects (less than 1 in 1,000 people)
Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
Signs of a severe allergic reaction include:
Difficulty breathing
Swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat
Difficulty swallowing
Rapid heartbeat
Call 999 or attend A&E immediately if these symptoms occur.
