My GLP-1 Medication Arrived Without Needles, Sharps Bin, or Wipes — What Should I Do?

Use this article to understand what to do if your GLP-1 medication, such as Mounjaro® or Wegovy®, arrived without needles, a sharps bin, or wipes, including which needle sizes are compatible with your pen, which items are included with which orders, and how to obtain replacements.

Both Mounjaro® and Wegovy® use ultra-fine, single-use needles for treatment. While the injection process is similar, the supply method and the specific compatible brands differ between the two medications. Your order may also include a sharps bin and alcohol wipes, depending on whether this is your first order.

The Mounjaro® KwikPen® does not come with needles inside the manufacturer's box; MedExpress supplies these separately within your delivery parcel.

Compatible brands and sizes

The KwikPen® is designed to work with any ISO 11608-2 compliant pen needles from major brands such as BD, Novo Nordisk, and Terumo.

You can safely use any combination of the following lengths and gauges:

MedExpress Supply: MedExpress usually provides 5 mm or 6 mm needles with your Mounjaro® order.

Maximum Recommended Length: While the Mounjaro® pen is compatible with longer needles, the maximum recommended length for safety and comfort is 8 mm.

Can I use longer needles with my Mounjaro® pen?

You can use different needle lengths with your Mounjaro® pen, as long as they are compatible.

Longer needles may be suitable for some patients depending on individual factors, but they do not change how the medication works.

If you prefer a different needle length, you can purchase compatible needles from a local pharmacy.

What to do if Mounjaro® needles are missing

If your Mounjaro® needles were not included in your parcel, you have two options:

Important: If your Mounjaro® needles were included in your delivery but have since been lost, misplaced, or disposed of, MedExpress will not provide replacements or reimbursement. In these cases, you will need to purchase replacement needles at your own cost.

Unlike Mounjaro®, Wegovy® needles are packed directly inside the box by the manufacturer.

Approved brands and sizes

The Wegovy® FlexTouch® pen must be used with specific approved needle brands. The maximum recommended needle length is 8 mm. Compatible sizes for these brands include:

What to do if Wegovy® needles are missing

If you find that needles are missing from your sealed Wegovy® box, you have two options:

Important: If your Wegovy® needles were originally present but have been lost, misplaced, or disposed of after delivery, MedExpress will not provide replacements or reimbursement. You will need to purchase replacement needles at your own cost.

A sharps bin is included only with your first Mounjaro® or Wegovy® order. Sharps bins are not included with repeat or subsequent orders, and MedExpress does not sell sharps bins separately.

If your sharps bin was missing from your first order: Contact MedExpress and we can arrange for a replacement to be sent to you. This only applies to first orders, as a first order is the only time MedExpress would have included a sharps bin with your delivery.

If you need a sharps bin for a repeat order, or need an additional one: MedExpress cannot supply or replace a sharps bin outside of your first order. Replacement sharps bins can be purchased from a local pharmacy or from general retailers.

Using and disposing of your sharps bin safely:

Alcohol wipes are included with every Mounjaro® or Wegovy® order, not just your first order.

If your wipes are missing from your delivery, we'd recommend purchasing replacement alcohol wipes yourself from a local pharmacy or supermarket, as this is usually quicker than waiting for a replacement to be sent. While MedExpress can arrange a replacement if needed, purchasing wipes locally will typically get you a replacement faster than requesting one from MedExpress.

To ensure your treatment remains safe and effective, always follow these sterile injection rules:

One needle per dose: You must use a fresh, sterile needle for every weekly injection. Never reuse a needle, as this increases the risk of infection and can cause the needle to blunt or block.

Safe disposal: Used needles must never go into household waste. Place them immediately into your sharps bin after use.
