What is the Wegovy® Pill?
The Wegovy® pill is a daily tablet designed for weight loss and long-term weight management. It contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 medication that mimics a natural hormone in the body. It works by targeting areas of the brain involved in appetite and hunger—helping to reduce "food noise," lower cravings, and increase feelings of fullness.
How does it differ from the Wegovy® injection?
- Administration: It is a daily tablet swallowed whole on an empty stomach, completely eliminating the need for weekly needle injections.
- Storage: Unlike Wegovy® injection pens which require refrigeration, Wegovy® tablets are conveniently stored at room temperature.
- Absorption: Because it is processed through your digestive system, it must be taken first thing in the morning with a small sip of plain water (no more than 120ml). You must then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medications.
How effective is it?
Data from the OASIS 4 clinical trial showed that adults using oral semaglutide (25mg) alongside lifestyle changes lost an average of 16.6% of their body weight over a 64-week period (approximately 1 year and 3 months). Additionally, around 3 in 10 people in the trial lost 20% or more of their body weight.
Dosing and Titration Schedule
To help your body adjust and minimize potential side effects, the Wegovy® pill follows a strict monthly step-up (titration) schedule starting from the lowest dose:
- Days 1–30: 1.5mg once daily
- Days 31–60: 4mg once daily
- Days 61–90: 9mg once daily
- Days 91 and onward: 25mg once daily (Maintenance Dose)
Our clinical team will review your progress at each step before confirming your next dose strength. The full treatment effect is typically achieved once you reach the 25mg maintenance dose.
Pricing and Launch Timeline
Because this is a new medication entering the UK pharmaceutical market, certain launch parameters are still being finalized:
- Release Date: We do not have an exact launch date locked in yet. Our procurement team is working closely with manufacturer suppliers and will announce general availability as soon as stock allocations arrive.
- Pricing: Private prescription pricing has not yet been set. Once our medication costs are established, transparent pricing tiers for each dosage strength will be published on our platform.
