To provide you with the safest possible care, our clinicians may need to view your Summary Care Record (SCR). This is a digital record that provides healthcare professionals with essential information from your GP records.
Use this guide to understand:
What the SCR contains and how it is used.
Why our clinicians need to view it.
Our strict privacy protocols and mandatory requirements.
What is the Summary Care Record?
The SCR is an electronic record created from your GP medical records. It is designed to give healthcare staff at other organisations (like MedExpress) access to vital information that can help them treat you safely and effectively.
What information is included?
Your current medications.
Any allergies you have.
Previous bad reactions to medicines.
By having this information at hand, our clinicians can ensure that any treatment they prescribe does not interact negatively with your existing medications or health conditions.
Why our clinicians view your SCR
Our clinical team uses the SCR to cross-reference the information provided in your consultation with your official GP record. They specifically look for:
Medical History: To confirm that a medication is appropriate for your specific health profile.
Safety Checks: To identify potential drug interactions or contraindications that may not have been mentioned during the consultation.
Verification: To ensure that the treatment requested is consistent with your ongoing care and long-term health goals.
Privacy and Confidentiality
We take your data privacy very seriously. It is important to know that only the prescribing clinician responsible for your order will ever view your SCR.
No other staff members, including our Customer Care or operations teams, have access to this record. Access is strictly audited, and your medical data is handled in total confidence, according to UK healthcare regulations.
Mandatory access for specific treatments
For some treatments—specifically GLP-1 injectable weight loss medications like Mounjaro and Wegovy—access to your Summary Care Record is mandatory.
Because these medications have a significant impact on your metabolic health, we cannot safely prescribe them without verifying your medical history through the SCR. During the consultation process, you will be asked to grant permission for this access. If permission is not granted, we will be unable to proceed with your order for these specific treatments.
